In the above photograph James Dean is seen wearing an original Johnson Motors Catalina Grand Prix dealer t-shirt under his coveralls, talking to John McLaughlin at the Santa Barbara race track. Looks like Mclaughlin is telling Jimmy not to take the Matchless 650 past this rev line prior to handing the bike over for him to take a ride around the pits. Racing was very much more relaxed back in the fifties, prior to the arrival of corporate company sponsorship involvement .
